Model 6468 8-port GigPCI-Express Switch
DSS Network's GigPCI-Express Switch Model 6468 is a 8-port Gigabit Ethernet switch on a highly integrated PCI-Express card form factor. It features an innovative "4+4" switching design that provides extreme performance and functionality and can be used to provide add-on Gigabit Ethernet switching capabilities in standard or rackmount server-based systems. It has been benchmarked at 980Mbytes/sec sustained using 1500-byte frames and over 1.8 million frames per second using 100-byte frames. It has an integrated 8-port layer-2 device as the central switching function, a 4-port PCI-Express (PCIe) Gigabit MAC host interface, an onboard FPGA for management and control and transceivers for the interconnect. Switch management is provided via the PCIe host bus interface. Optionally, a microcontroller function can be synthesized into the FPGA to enhance the onboard management capabilities.
The Model 6468 can be used as a standalone or simple managed multiport switch or front-end network processor and is fully IEEE 802.3 compliant. As a PCI-Express option card, it can be used to add scalable switched networking capabilities to any embedded system design with either "x8" or "x16" PCI-Express slots. It has four shielded RJ-45 connectors connecting directly to CAT5e twisted pair cabling and dual multifunction Link/Tx/Rx LEDs per port. It uses advanced Gigabit Ethernet semiconductor technology -- a Broadcom BCM5388 integrated 8-port layer-2 switch, an Intel 41210 PCI-Express bridge and dual Intel 82546 dual port integrated PCI-X MAC-PHY. Advanced features including port-based and 802.1Q VLAN's, trunking, failover, link-aggregation, port mirroring, protected ports, jumbo frames and 802.1p QOS/priority are supported by the onboard switch -- easily configured and managed from the host interface.
The Model 6468 8-port GigPCI-Express switch is targeted for OEMs and Systems Integrators for use in data and telecommunications and is well suited for support of Datacenter, Military, Aerospace, Telecom, Industrial and Test Equipment applications.
This product is available with an OEM Developers Kit containing onboard firmware, Linux (2.4/2.6), VxWorks (5.4/5.5/6.x) and Windows (2000, XP) device drivers, library functions, frame generators, loopback tests, benchmark programs, performance statistics, management utilities and documentation.
